Mitigation and adaptation are two fundamental ways to address climate change. Since the COP27 held in November 2022, countries have been paying more attention to the issue of adaptation. Notably, previous attitude of “emphasizing mitigation over adaptation” has changed. Going forward, integrated consideration of mitigation and adaptation will be a core issue in addressing climate change.
This special session explores the associations between mitigation and adaptation, offering a platform for the latest discoveries and insights. We welcome views on the synergies and trade-offs between mitigation and adaptation. The key areas of focus include, but are not limited to:
Concept and framework for integrated mitigation and adaptation
Dynamics of mitigation and adaptation, implications for sustainable development
Assessment of synergies and trade-offs between mitigation and adaptation
Climate resilient development pathways
Case-based strategies, policies, and actions
Financial demands for mitigation and adaptation and their allocation
Submissions should be original and unpublished. We welcome both empirical and theoretical contributions, as well as interdisciplinary research that bridges the gap between social science and climate science perspectives.

Once your manuscript is accepted, it will go into production and will be simultaneously published in the current regular issue and pulled into the online Special Issue. Articles from this Special Issue will appear in different regular issues of the journal, and will be clearly marked and branded as Special Issue articles.

We look forward to receiving your contributions to foster the dialogue on this critical topic.
